Tito lands a sucker punch to MMA!

Yesterday was a bad day for MMA, as police were called to the home of Tito Ortiz & Jenna Jameson. The morning ended with Tito handcuffed and arrested on Domestic abuse charges. According to Huntington Beach Police there was a visible injury on the victim resulting in the arrest. Now there are claims from Tito of drug abuse by his girlfriend of over 4 years. Regardless of what happens Tito gave the sport of MMA a major black eye yesterday!

As Tito was being led to the police cruiser Tito was being smart with the reporter who asked if he was being arrested on domestic abuse charges. To which he smartly answered something to the effect “I’m going to show them jiu-jitsu” If he was a concerned about supposed drug abuse, it sure didn’t show. Charges were pressed and a restraining order is in place at the moment to keep him away from Miss Jameson.

Everything that Tito has worked for as an MMA fighter is in jeopardy with this incident. When I heard about what happened initially I was angry…first as a husband, then as a man and as an MMA fan because no matter what you NEVER put your hands on a woman. I don’t care who you are or what you do this is totally unacceptable behavior. Now even his new UFC contract could be gone depending on what happens. UFC President Dana White told TMZ that Tito
could be booted from the organization if the domestic violence charges against him prove legit. White says, "We're gonna be fair, but we could cut him." Dana put a lot of bad blood between him and Tito behind when he resigned Tito to a new UFC contract. Not only does this look bad on the UFC regardless of the outcome because perception dictates many views and not necessarily the truth, sad as that is. This gives the spot of MMA a big black eye in the public eye. I think that Dana is doing the right thing by waiting until the police reports all come in and all the dust settles to decide what to do. I also totally agree with this statement he made…"Other than going on a killing spree, being accused of domestic violence is the worst thing you can have going for you".

I don’t know what is going to happen with this situation but I know that many eyes are closely watching this situation to see the outcome. There are those that will try to use this as a reason MMA shouldn’t be allowed in certain states that the UFC and others have been trying to open up to the sport. I would say that we need to keep an open mind until all the details and truth come out, as Dana White is doing. If it ends up that Tito did indeed lay his hands on Jenna in anger, I do believe he should be dropped from the UFC and seek help for what happened. If things turn out differently, then he should be given the chance continue his career with the UFC. Either way though, this will follow him and haunt him all along the way. I pray that it’s a swift and truthful process so all parties can try and put this behind them and move on to the next part of their lives.

According to TMZ, the couple is now saying that Jameson doesn't a have drug problem and Ortiz didn't hit her:

"What actually happened has now been dramatically distorted and misinterpreted and remarks that both Tito and I made after the police arrived reflect the state of shock that we were both in," said Jameson.

As for Tito, we're told he's now backing off what he strongly insinuated ... that Jenna is an OxyContin addict. We're told Tito's position now is that he found two OxyContin pills in a pair of her pants pocket and may have jumped to conclusions. Jenna says the pills were very old. And, as we first reported, Jenna tested negative for drugs this week.

Tito's lawyer, Chip Matthews, tells TMZ the whole thing was "a big misunderstanding."

The latest from both Tito & Jenna is that it all was a "big misunderstanding" and they are trying to smooth things out. I'll keep you all updated as it comes to light.
