All through his MMA career Jake Shields has had critics claim that he is a one-dimensional fighter. Yet time and time again Jake has proven himself a fearsome fighter. He has worked had to attain a coveted Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, has a 24-4-1 career record and currently holds the Strikeforce Middlewight Belt. I'd say that Jake Shields has more than proven himself and shown what kind of fighter he is!
In between bout Jake trains with friends Nick & Nate Diaz, in fact lately he has been helping Nick train for his upcoming fight against Marius Zaromskis on January 30th in the Strikeforce Miami event. He's been offering advice and sparring with Nick as he oftern does with both brothers and they help Jake out with his training as well. While he won't be in Nick's corner for the fight, you can be sure he'll be watching and rooting his friend on. Jake likes to continue his training because as he told me "there are too many good fighters out there to not be in top shape". That's one thing you won't do is catch Jake asleep at the wheel, he's going to be ready to go toe to toe with anyone.
What's next up for Jake? Word around MMA is that he'll likely face a fighter newly signed on with Strikeforce, former PRIDE & UFC champ Dan Henderson. Although at the time I talked with Jake nothing has been signed by his camp for that specific bout he is expecting something to happen within thenext week or two. Then you can be sure that Jake will be kicking his training to another level to get ready for Henderson, a fighter with knockout power and superior wrestling skills. Jake himself is a dangerous adversary on the ground and standing, this is one fight I can't wait to see!!!
