It’s been nearly a year since Eric Lawson stepped into the ring for a fight. During that time he has had to rehab his knee after surgery, luckily for Eric what he does in his regular mma training was exactly what his knee needed. Other than taking it a little easier, his training routine remained the same. Just recently Eric was added to the Strikeforce Challengers card coming up at the end of the month in San Jose.
Since he was added last minute to the fight card Eric doesn’t have an opponent yet. When I chatted with him I asked how he prepares for a fight not knowing who he will face. Eric told me that it really doesn’t matter what opponent Strikeforce matches him up withbecause he always trains the same way. His trainers & fellow fighters, like Jake Shields, have been focusing on his cardio, kickboxing & Muay Thai. Eric maintains a strict diet even when he isn’t fighting but I did ask if it changed any the closer to the bout he got. He told me he does just minor tweaks to what he eats, he tends to eat more chicken while switching to brown rice from white - this is for the nutrient value. The other thing he does is eat more raw green veggies to aid his cardio and muscle recovery plus taking his supplements & vitamins.
Adding Eric to the card, even last minute should not only add a good fighter to the fight card but help with ticket sales as he is one of the Top 3 ticket sellers for the promotion. It won’t hurt that many of his nearby friends, family & friends should be able to make the trek to see his fight in San Jose.
When we were talking he wanted to pass along some thanks to friends andothers who have helped him along. He said a big thanks to Ian & Dan at Hitman Fight Gear, Dr. Nader of Cardio Factor Supplements, Manny at In Motion Chiropractic, us here at MMA Jacked and of course his coaches George & Gill at Combat Fitness. Eric is a cool guy who you can tell has a passion for mma and is driven to do his best. Look him up on twitter and see what he’s up plus you can get tickets for the fight at the Eric Lawson Official Website.
Be sure to check out Strikeforce Challengers from the San Jose Civic Center on Friday, February 26th.There are some excellent fights on the card…Trevor Prangley vs.Karl Amoussou along with the Women’s Featherweight Championship fight between Sarah Kaufman and Takayo Hashi. And of course the EricLawson bout. So if you can’t make it don’t worry, do what I’llbe doing…tune into Showtime to catch all the action. That does it, until next time MMA fans and be sure to look me up on twitter, look for daveradioman.
